Fnatic triumphs at Riot Games ONE PRO Invitational 2024, while Leviatán suffers setbacks with new roster

On December 15, the Riot Games ONE PRO INVITATIONAL 2024 concluded, a showcase tournament that served as the culmination of the Riot Games Festival in Yokohama, Japan. The tournament covered key titles in the Riot ecosystem, including Valorant. Although the competition had no prize pool and was more of a preparatory event, it attracted fans thanks to the participation of star teams such as Fnatic, Leviatán, DetonatioN FocusMe, and ZETA Division. However, unexpected results left fans with questions: how did one of the most consistent teams from last season, Leviatán, manage to finish in last place while Fnatic took the title?
Riot Games ONE PRO INVITATIONAL 2024, although held as part of a festival, was aimed at testing and fine-tuning strategies before the start of the new Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) season in 2025. The participation of only four teams emphasized the intimate nature of the event. The tournament format included a series of best-of-one (Bo1) matches, which significantly reduced the competitive pressure, but at the same time increased the importance of each round.
The main task for the participants was to test new lineups and strategies. In this context, the results were both inspiring and unexpected. Fnatic, despite internal changes, showed their dominance, while Leviatán, on the contrary, demonstrated instability.
Fnatic have stability and skill at a new level
Fnatic, one of the strongest teams in Valorant, confidently took first place. This was an important stage for the team: after some minor changes in the roster, they needed to prove their readiness for the new season. Despite one disappointing loss to Leviatán, the team managed to learn from their lessons and showed a stable game in the remaining matches.
Key factors for Fnatic’s success:
- Team cohesion: Despite the changes in the roster, Fnatic looked like a monolith. Coordination and clear communication helped them dominate matches against ZETA Division and DetonatioN FocusMe.
- Individual form of the players: The main star of the tournament was Boaster, whose contribution to the team’s success was especially noticeable. His tactical decisions and confidence on the map set the pace of the game.
- Adapting to the Bo1 format: Although the tournament format is often referred to as a “lottery” due to the high probability of unexpected results, Fnatic demonstrated flexibility by instantly adapting to their opponents.
For Leviatán, the tournament was the first test for their revamped roster, which included Demon1 and nataNk. Expectations for the team were high, given their success at Champions 2024. However, the results left a bitter taste, as the team lost two of their three matches, finishing the tournament in last place.
Two Japanese teams, DetonatioN FocusMe and ZETA Division, were represented at the tournament as hosts. While both teams showed off their strengths, their results were modest.
- DetonatioN FocusMe: The team managed to pick up one win, showing that they could put up a fight. However, a lack of consistency and problems with strategy execution prevented them from fighting for first place.
- ZETA Division: Despite the support of their fans, ZETA Division were not ready for the level of competition. Their performance was especially disappointing given the expectations of the local audience.
